The Minutes of Staff's Meeting, KTUH-FM

Presents:
Mohammed Rouf, Pamela Westcott, Cindy Chieu, David Walter, Scott Youngblood, Mark Schroeder, Jean Cullingham, Paul Johnson, Nick Lyovin, Debbie Fox, Nancy Alamd, Stevie Calandra, Maria Glany, Derek Ferar, Julia Steele, Roger Mallette, Stacey Abbott, Burt Lum, Sandy Sandelin, Tim Lynch, Chris Johnson, Chris Chang, Franchon Luke, Jai Mansson, Gary Holmes, Lisa Lefkowitz.

The meeting was called to order at 7:45 p.m.

Announcements:
- We should re-evaluate our fee proposal tactic! We need more signatures for fee proposal petitions.
- Debbie Fox will arrange the petitions committee.
- Our air board is in town in anyday will be at our door.
- Stevie, Derek, Stacey, and Maria will be helping out with the Radiothon reminding letter.
- A news room equipment stolen (radio).
- As of today EBS is dead.
- Room 203 is not enough reinforcement to storage LP; so no records gathering on the floor.
- Big problems with alcohol! No alcohol allowed anywhere in the studio. Another big problem, vandalism! KTUH is missing a lot of LPs. We have to stop it.
- As of today from 5pm to 8am DJs are not allowed to bring more than one guest. This is a pending policy.
- A new policy is introduced to the staff. Any decisions made by the General Manager or the Board of Directors in the carrying out of their duties may be overridden by a 2/3 vote from the voting staff.
- Every show will be re-evaluated every semester. To get credit, help the Music Director, do a monthly PSA and help with some of the office work. If you are currently doing a show, and you have met the minimum requirement then you have nothing to worry about.
- New procedure and manual already made up coming up soon.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:07 p.m.

General Staff Meeting

Present: Diane Jackson, Vince Hudkins, Todd Woodman, Vernon Wallace, Scott Mackenzie, Sheila Miles, Pat Donegan, Ted Cho, Patty Amaral, Stephen Gomes, Mohammad Rouf, Lisa Lefkowitz, Joan Bird, Kit Grant, Kim Chun, Ed Shigeoka, Al Morikami, Tim Lynch, Jai Mansson, Amy Wong, Sandy Sandelin, Advisor: Bob Duesterhaus, Guest: Frank Sansone.

Excused: Rick Derrickson, Richard Brian, Frank Amarino, Mike Matsumoto, Beverly Nakada, Franchon Luke.

Meeting called to order at 3:10 p.m.

I. Old Minutes. It was approved with addition of Kit listed as excused.

II. Director's Meeting. Two things were decided on:
A. Emergency KTUH alumni phone list.
B. Go-fers. New trainees will be assigned by Vernon to D.J.'s in the air room for a month or two until they feel comfortable. Please be patient with trainees.

III. Logs. Please sign your logs!!

IV. Library Shelves. Franchon have labeled the rock section of the library. All rock and free form D.J.'s have assignments to do.

V. Radiothon. Vince presented radiothon relay. Goal is to raise $10,000. Discussion followed. General sponsor sheet were handed out. It will be due on August 15. Return it to the office. Diana is in charge of the celebrity pledges. We have a table reserved at campus center volunteers are needed.

VI. BCA. Frank Sansone was introduced. Bob indicated that BCA needs regularly enrolled students to join.

VII. Kit. There is no cassette deck in the production room. Ask directors to remind people to do productions.

General Staff Meeting

Present: Beverly Nakada, Franchon Luke, Vince Hudkins, Mike Matsumoto, Muhammed Rouf, Mike Sullivan, Kit Grant, Frank Amarino, Robin West, Cliff H., Jaime M., Lila Gardner, A. Morikami.

Meeting came to order at 6:45 p.m.

Bob is sick - Beverly is running the meeting.

Mike M. - Why are we having a staff meeting during the Spring Break?

News - Congratulations for maintaining newscast during the Spring Break.

Exciter is in - @ main transmitter, however Ka'ala translator is down - it will be repaired.

KTUH Community Bulletin Board - Brought up by H'Lane. Optional announcement, to be processed by office. No commercials or pranks or rewards.

Vince H. - Nice idea, BUT administration nightmare - legal troubles. Consult state attorney general office.

Kit - Another avenue of information (new production director)

Headphones - What happened - Uncle Dale will be notified to repair the new super KOSS headphones.

Lady Di poster - Where is it?

Kit - Repo man album seen at a Kailua party - will be checked on.

Traffic Office - Door should be open during business hours.

New G.M. - Jai Mansson. When does term begin? June first.

New Rock Director - Franchon Luke.

Kit - See more creative ID's & PSAs/promos. Training to be redone and staff reorganized. Charge for outside groups using KTUH production facilities.

Franchon - Friday slot a mess - for rock shifts - Richard, Kevin, Sandy.

Cliff - No news is good news - not doing a show due to show rehearsals.

Music Director - James Apollo Washington.

Concerts - No activity - CCB wants pre sale to strenthen sales. Tubes concert incident cast bad light on KTUH as sponsor. Have Budman, BCA.

Frank A. - What about some KTUH publication, as a fundraiser, subscriptions perhaps - next program guide?

Al M. - What about a promo/event for the power increase activation.

Director's Meeting, 4:30 p.m.

Present: Bev Nakada, Beau Hodge, Mike Meehan, Vernon Wallace, John Aquino, Jai Mansson.

1. Bev announced the "Best Production of the Month" contest. Beau and Randy will coordinate.

2. Program Guides need to be haned out. Beau will leave some at Tower Records. Thanks Bev, for the Promo cart.

3. Mike has a checklist for people doing on-air training. Jai and Mike will coordinate.

4. Party! A recognition affair for all those who gave so much, for free yet. Date is Dec. 7th, 4:30 p.m. Menu and amounts of alcohol was worked out; to be catered by SAGA.

5. The Free From Director position is open, applications now being accepted.

6. Reminder: when filling in for a show, DJs must play music specified for that slot.

7. Jai will investigate possibility of a wooden sign for KTUH, similar to the ones used outside at Campus Center.

Director's Meeting

Present: Bob Wiorek, Beverly Nakada, Vernon Wallace, Jai Mansson, Beau Hodge, John Parrish, Craig Skrinsteus, Jim Kneubuhl, Randy Sylva, Al Morikami, Jon Bratten, Kit Grant, Mike Meehan, Franchon Luke, Mike Matsumoto.

1. New Albums: Frank Zappa, L. Anderson's Triple Live.

2. Beverly asked directors for input and their staff for revisal of KTUH bible. This is to make smoother transitions as personnel changes.

2a. The acetate schedule has been revised. Please consider experience in assigning jocks to open slots.

2b. We want to tighten production training procedures. Kit said both her and andrew are working on a production bible. Beverly asked to coordinate with Beau.

2c. Beverly opened discussion on approved acts on PSA's. Jai explained and will look and see if procedures can be tightened. Bible will be condensed. Can phone list be place elsewhere?

2d. World of Tech 6 a.m. Monday-Friday, and Sea Tidings Monday-Friday 2 p.m. Both are a minute each. BBC Science will continue, Thursday 6 p.m. Science HI will continue, Tuesday 6 p.m. There are 50+ rolls of old BBC science for production use, in the production room.

2e. Beverly asked for directors to watch over and find jocks for shows: don't always go to P.D. or A.P.D. to find replacements. Beau asked who the Free Form director was/is. Vernon is still the Free Form director.

3. Vernon insisted his list of 12 points to all staff members. (see attached) Discussion followed. Point #3, second sentence "should" changed to "will." Randy volunteered to put a 3-ring binder with artist fact sheets. #5 change "do line it out" to "do line the log entry out." Change #6 to "on air DJs are responsible for persons in station." Change #7 to "Have respect for on air DJs and check studio lite before entering." #8 add: "Turn off lights in bathroom and hallway after hours." #9 change "10 minutes" to "15 minutes." Also add to "persons authorized" News Staff. Add to #12 do "approved" production. Also add to bottom: Failure to adhere to these will result in termination. Discussion on #11. Randy agreed to file albums pulled from new bins. Randy agreed to sort out the 1100 albums donated by KSHO. He will check through and eliminate duplicates of good quality LP's that KTUH has. Two weeks.

4. Bob announced that the Chancellor has written the FCC asking for an extension, and has allowed us to send out bids for equipment.

5. Staff meetings are mandatory. Vernon will be checking. Discussion followed as to evenings for staff meetings. Next meeting: Wednesday November 7. If you cannot make it, leave a note. 3 unexcused absences results in termination.

6. We are very tight on the budget. All expenses will be monitored. We are expecting the dedicated fee by Spring '85. Mike Matsumoto asked about promotional plans. We have limited funds about $700.00.

7. Al will make a sign promoting KTUH sports sign to hang in front of sports casters in KLUM Gym, now that UH wahine volleyball will be telecast.

To All Staff Members

1. All personnel will be on time for their shift. If you are going to be late please call in, or find someone to do your show.

2. All personnel are to put albums away instead of leaving them in the record library.

3. All D.J.'s should play 3 or 4 songs then back announce them. R-rated music will be played after 9 p.m. only.

4. All on air D.J.'s should try to play as much of the new albums as possible. And try to give some history of artists you play. You don't have to say something about every artist you play.

5. All on air personnel, if there is a P.S.A. you feel you cannot read without making mistakes, line the log entry out, initial and date it on the Program Log.

6. On air D.J.'s are resonsible for persons in station.

7. Have respect for on-air D.J.'s and check studio on air light before entering.

8. All personnel working any department of this station will keep the back door closed. After 10:00 p.m., you may prop open for restroom use, then close it afterwards. Turn off lights in bathroom and hallways after hours.

9. All personnel using the production room will hav to be there on time or lose the use of it. If you are late by 15 minutes you can't make the other person leave. Persons authorized to do so are people training new staff members, news staff, Monday nite live-stardate science Hawaii, and family tree.

10. If you don't show up to do your shifts. One month suspension, the second time four months. No visits between suspension.

11. All personnel who do a show, you now have two cubby holes that should be kept in alphabetical order. This will be done every other week.

12. All on air personnel will do approved production once a month. PSA or PR, etc.

Failure to adhere to these will result in termination.
